DAY TRIP TO GRUENE
We went to Gruene (pronounced Green) to the historic district yesterday. Gruene Hall is the oldest dance hall in Texas. Many of the country performers have been there and some started in places like this. George Strait performed here several times.
There are restaurants, a general store, coffee shop, clothing store, and lots of cool things to see. The pretty flowers below (are they blooming like that in MO) were in barrels outside the hall. I got Sharon on the stage for a picture but didn't get her to sing.
Gruene is located west of New Braunfels which is north of San Antonio on Hwy 35. For us it was about 65 miles and took us about an hour and a half. It was a nice day and we enjoyed getting out. There was much more to see than at Luckenbach. Sophie went with us and did pretty well. She stayed in her crate, in the truck. She has been really good about the crate. It was a cool day, so there was no problem leaving her for an hour at a time.
There is a rodeo going on in San Antonio and a concert at Luckenbach this weekend. I don't know if we will make either of them. We are really busy, you know.
I can't believe how time is flying. It will only be about six weeks now until we leave this area and head back north to Missouri. Our plan remains to leave here on March 26th. We have a few more things we want to see before we take off. Looking forward to warm weather next week. Gonna be a good one!
