BIRDS OF A FEATHER GET TOGETHER

DAN & SUE REILLY
Out of the blue, more or less, Sue and Dan called. They were in San Antonio, and were coming for a visit. It was a great surprise. Sharon and Sue worked together at TFE, in Columbia, MO a few years back.  Dan and Sue were fulltime rver's for a couple years and then gave it up for health reasons. They do miss it and we wish they were still into it so we could meet up on the road once in a while.

Since we don't have many old friends who are into rving, it is nice to visit with some who are. They were in Edinburg, TX this winter for a while in a park model and are now headed back to Alton, IL. We had a great visit discussing the pros and cons of this and that. RVers are almost always nice people and it is fun to share our experiences. We hope we can get together again soon and we really appreciate you guys making the effort to come and see us.

We are anticipating a possible visit from Carole and Gerald (Doug) Roberts from Paris, MO where we grew up. They are in Mission, TX now where they have also spent time in a park model this winter. They will soon be making their way back to snow covered northeast Missouri. Hopefully, there will be an early spring as the groundhog predicted and winter will  soon be history.

We hope it works out for Carole & Doug to come this way although, it is a little off their path so we do understand if they need to get back and can't. We would like to get them to come to Texas in the RV and spend some time with us in the Hill Country next year. What do you think guys??? If we don't see you here, we will see you in Paris when we get back in April. But, we really hope you get to come check out this area.

Our time here too, is winding down. We will soon be headed to Missouri, and our workamping position at Lazy Day RV Park, near Montgomery City and Danville. Maybe those who couldn't visit here will be able to visit us there this summer. We are really hoping it is not the kind of hot summer you had last year when we were in cool Alaska.

TEXAS MARDI GRAS

Looking for an event to attend, we settled on a "Texas Mardi Gras" at Bandera, only about twenty miles from Hill Country Resort. The parade was to begin at noon so we made our way into town early, as we always do. We found a spot to park right next to the Mulberry Saloon. Not a bad spot (alcohol already flowing) except for the DJ and his loud music. He did narrate the parade and told us what was what. That helped except when he lost his place and didn't seem to know what was what. Not a problem, we were not familiar with most of it anyway.

This was our first Beauty, on her way to the masquerade ball.

Then the parade began and we saw float after float. Some quite plain and others exemplifying hours of work by these Texas cajuns. Below is "11th St Cowboy Bar" float.

The Texas Longhorn from the saloon.

Not really sure who sponsored this float.

The parade was about 45 minutes long and there were horses, trucks, police, fire engines,  cars, and other floats. just had to put a few pics here and these were the ones that turned out. This was the 8th Annual Mardi Gras Parade in Bandera. Keep your calendar open for the 9th, in the cowboy capitol of the world, Bandera, Texas.
