Most of you who read this blog will already know that I had surgery on my neck May 3rd. Dr Cunningham removed two disks and fused three vertebrae to relieve pain, tingling, and numbness in my right shoulder, arm, and hand. After four days, I am really impressed. I have had nearly no pain. Nothing severe at all. I was uncomfortable the first couple of days, mostly with swallowing. If felt like I had been hit in the throat and was bruised. Yesterday and today the swallowing is a lot better also. I have some stiffness in my neck but it is nothing compared to the pain I was having in my arm. I'm very glad I went on and had the surgery done.
Although, I had been some better for a few weeks, Sharon was worried that if I didn't get it taken care of, it might get worse on the road and she would have to deal with taking me to doctors in some strange city. We just watched a "bit" on the Today Show about how "boomers" are having more surgeries (especially knee surgery) to try and not have to deal with the pain. They seem to want to get it fixed rather than try to endure it. I was that way also.
It has been just as easy to recoup here in the RV as it would have been in the house. I have had no trouble with the steps and no yard to worry about taking care of. I have walked several times each day. Part of my instructions from the doctor were to walk, walk, walk. I think it probably helps to take out the soreness and help with breathing issues so you don't get pneumonia. I talked to a lady across the street yesterday. She is from Little Rock, AR and doing medical treatment here. She is coming back in two weeks to do surgery. Wants to race me around the park after she is through with hers. (Think I have a head start but I don't like to play if I can't win anyway.) She had pneumonia and is recouping from it.
Wherever you go there are nice people and many of them have much more serious issues with which to deal. I want to thank you all for your support and encouragement during this little event of mine. I am doing well and will bounce right back. It just proves to me that you deal with whatever you have to, wherever you may be in life. Tough times don't last, tough people do!!
