GOOD NEIGHBORS

Good neighbors are like good teeth, good backs, good roofs, and good refrigerators!  You take them for granted until you don't have them.........and you may not always have them.

One of the nice things about fulltime RVing,  is the nice people you meet. Weekly, if not more often, I meet new people and make new friends. Most of them are wonderful people and fun to be with. We exchange information about our experiences, families, children, grandchildren, RV's, jobs, and plans for the future. Often, these exchanges take place during "happy hour" and with several neighbors involved.

Sometimes, we have so much fun we don't want it to end. It can be the highlight of our week. However, it isn't always like that. I can usually tell right off if I am going to like someone or not. Maybe that is not a good trait to develop but over my 67 years it has become more keen. At this age, I don't have to live a certain way, I don't have to dress a certain way, and I don't have to commiserate with a neighbor of whom I am NOT fond.

The first neighbor I met at Cottonwoods, two and a half months ago, was "Dan Johnson",  my neighbor to the west. He is an easy going, quiet fellow who definitely minds his own business. He was likable from our first words.  He was not obnoxious, he was not pushy, he didn't talk all the time, but he would help me with anything I needed. We shared many visits, meals, and conversations. All the neighbors like the guy.

Last night, Dan divulged his plan to leave and head  to Wisconsin to visit his brother and sister. This afternoon he hitched up the RV and with a sincere "good-bye", he was off. He indicated that he would probably be back in a few weeks and was confident it would be before we leave in October. He even suggested he might go to Texas this fall to the park "You are going to run", to spend some time or the winter. DAN, I AM NOT GOING TO RUN THE PARK! Those days are over. I no longer want that type of responsibility for any amount of compensation.

I will miss you Dan, and would be pleased if you show up here again and/or at JOHNSON CREEK RV PARK in Texas. It was a pleasure getting to know you and I hope I experience many more neighbors like you with whom I am as comfortable.

Happy Travels Wherever You Are! YOU are a good neighbor!
