LIFE

Life is what happens while you're busy making other plans.---John Lennon

We certainly never know what tomorrow will bring when we are making plans in life. Most of the time we plan tomorrow's agenda with no issues. However, occasionally life throws us a curve and our well thought out plans are interrupted.

Such was the case Saturday, October 04. We were visiting our son, David's family, in Lee's Summit, MO watching our grandson Noah pitching a baseball game. A call from Sharon's brother and his wife brought us from an evening of serene enjoyment to an immediate transition to one of life's tumultuous moments. Sharon's mother was about to undergo emergency colon surgery. The situation was dire and we needed to be in Columbia, ASAP.

Having a wonderfully responsible family, we turned to Georgia and David for direction. Decision made, Georgia would take us back to the house and we would immediately head to Boone Hospital. Two hours later, we were at the hospital and learned that given only a 25% chance of surviving the surgery, Mom had made it but was now on a ventilator and had given up much of her colon, with a surgically placed cholostomy.

To shorten my description of this traumatic life turn of events, Mom never regained consciousness. Little more than thirty six hours after surgery, doctors indicated they had done all they could. It was a painful but, not a difficult decision. The life of a beautiful person was about to come to an end. A wonderful wife, mother, and grandmother was moving into the next stage of life.

At 2:40 p.m. Monday, October 06, 2014 Mom, Juanita Frances Dodge passed on at Boone Hospital with her family surrounding her. She was laid to rest at Lick Creek Cemetery, Perry, MO on Wednesday, October 08, 2014.

This is but one example of how quickly good times turn to bad. I remember when my Grandma James passed. My Dad had been playing with us outdoors having a great time. The phone call from California came and changed life in an instant.

That is the point of this blog today. Enjoy the good times and don't take them for granted. Life's events can change the complexion of our days for time to come.

What we like to do changes with each decade of life. Whatever it is you enjoy now, try to make time for it. There is no going back. That is what we are doing now though we recognize things will change in a relative short time. One day at a time enjoying each as it comes. But, be prepared.

In three words I can sum up everything I've learned about life: it goes on.
